The Institute has a delegation to COP25 in Madrid Spain in December 2019  The institutes ideas for pressing for increased ambition takes off at this conference and ambition features strongly in the following Madrid COP25 of that year. The new theme is our house is on fire, which is unfortunately proved to be true as Australia starts to experience catastrophic fire climate emergencies in 2019. As well as a moving session with Greta Thunberg in the main plenary with Mary Robinson. It also has an official side event and an official exhibition and is awarded a delegation of 42 people officially. It partners for the first time with the Pan African Meteorology Association, Amazon for the Amazones and Bank National de Paris and The Freie University of Berlin. 2019
We participate in a live space link up at COP25 United Nations Climate Conference in Madrid 2019
Climate change moves to a new more dangerous era- with half of Australia under threat of catastrophe but its government still banning climate change as a reason!  The atmosphere increases to 412 part per million CO2 and  a condition not seen for 3 million years when the sea level was 125 metres higher, and the world was much warmer.

Health Effects start to matter to people
The ice sheets are melting very fast, diseases such as meningitus start to take hold in Africa, and malaria as expected starts to increase. Heart attacks continue in Africa, and pollution is now proven to be killing people everywhere in vast numbers, plastics are now found in every part of the planet and in most species stomachs, and almost all sea life.
Many cities are becoming dangerous and intollerable due to the pollution and in 2019 the carbon output  of humans actually increases.
We have reached 37.1 gigatonnes of carbon per year- an average output per human of 4.9 tonnes of carbon and the remaining carbon budget for keeping below 1.5 degrees of warming is now very slim at 8 years left- see our website -geiclimate.org
Still more and more oppressive regimes are either being elected or coming to power anyway. Democracy is being fast eroded and the fossil fuel lobby is using its mucsle to to keep the world pinned to oil, gas, coal and nuclear rather than the fast swtich to renewables we need urgently.   For the first time the COP conference was unable to move forward as the new slogans -climate emergency and our house is on fire by ordinary people is supressed in favour of business as usual by a media controlled by vested interests in fossil fuels who are over represented at the COP climate talks at the United Nations.
