She began her career as  a Radiographer, qualified at Edinburgh, a former BA purser, an English Language teacher and designer of Education Courses at Newbury College and now mentors teachers in all areas in FE.

Miriam Kennet, Chair of Trustees.

Miriam Kennet  was one of the Founder Members of the Green Economics Institute Trust. She has led many educational courses and lectured around the world at many different Universities. She has led Youth in Action Courses for the British Council and the EU, Erasmus Student Courses for hundreds of students, qualification courses and many other educational practices including Adult Literacy at Black Friars Settlement in London,   for which she trained at London University. She teaches on the Summer School Programmes and also tutors our Post Graduate Research Programme Students.

She won an award from 1 world action as one of the 100 most powerful unseen women in the world given by John Snow of Channel 4 News. She also won the Honour Award from the Trade Ministry in Luxeburg for her Green Business achievements. She was alumna of the month at South Bank University, and has degrees from South Bank, Leeds and Oxford University.

She has published more than 100 articles, books academic proceedings and chapters and is a regular speaker all over Europe and advisor to governments and Ministers and appears on tv and radio, the BBC having made a special programme about her life and work.

She has been trained in Trust issues, administration, finance and many other aspects of Trust Management and is on the Assemblies of two other Foundations, The Green European Foundation and the European Network of Political Foundations,  one in Luxembourg and one in Brussels.

She leads the Institutes COP climate conferences delegations and Ban Ki Moon’s climate adviser said that her delegation had some of the best solutions to stop climate change  and  help the economy of any teams at the COP conferences.

Bianca strongly believes that when we heal the earth we heal ourselves.

Bianca Madison-Vuleta has attained her extensive knowledge of natural and complementary medicine by studying with many of the world’s leading experts, including Lifestyle Medicine training at Harvard Medical School.

She is Founder and Co-chair of The British Academy for Lifestyle Medicine, whose mission is to provide world class education in promoting healthier and more responsible lives through sustainably improved lifestyle choices.

Lifestyle Medicine is widely recognised as the holistic model which is transforming and revolutionising the Western healthcare system. Bianca is very honoured to be at the cutting edge of the global wellness revolution.

She commands immense authority and respect in the field by writing, presenting and lecturing internationally, alongside her successful therapy practices in London and Oxfordshire.

Bianca specialises in Lifestyle Medicine and preventative healthcare, wellness and anti ageing coaching and Clinical Psychoneuroimmunology (CPNI), mind-body health optimisation.

In recognition of her philanthropic work she has received Ambassador for Peace award from UPF, an NGO with a special consultative status with the UN, has served as Global Poverty Ambassador for Global Poverty Project and was recently featured in Inspiration Bible, a book devoted to inspiring and uplifting humanity.

Bianca is one of our most prolific writers in many of our books and also a highly experienced speaker, on our videos and our events, as well as an advocate for our work, for social and environmental justice and education for our Trust.

Anjikwi Mshelbwala  (Nigeria)

Trustee and spokesperson on  IT and the role of Green Economics and its benefits and implementation for development, gender, health and education for women and girls. 

Anjikwi is a specialist in Aid and IT as well as bringing knowledge of Green Economics for Development as it is needed and is evolving in several parts of Africa. A senior person in Action Aid Charity in Africa, we are delighted to have him on board as a Trustee. He is currently working with a major aid agency helping to solve and prevent the problems of Covid 19 in Nigeria.

 Anjikwi Mshelbwala has a degree in Computer Science and has worked in Information Technology for several years. He worked as a teacher of science in a school for the less privileged in Nigeria, then onto ICT and biometrics projects and computer training.

He then went on to pursue his passion working in the NGO; VSO and later to ActionAid, deploying and adapting ICT4D (ICT for development),Green ICT, designing and deploying computer centers for excluded communities and left behind rural areas in developing countries. His is working to see a greener world that has opportunities for everyone to live in a healthy environment (our dear planet) and to have the best chance to be their best.

He’s also trained by Harvard on Problem Definition by Iterative Adaptation and applies it to solving difficult problems around the developing countries especially on bridging the digital divide. Smart cities and ICT in Health are also his interests especially to remote and difficult to reach regions. He is also a member of the BCS,  IET Institution and IEEE Computer society among others. He is delighted to be a trustee in the Green Economics Institute which he holds dear to his heart.

Rhianon Hawkins, Trustee (Wales)

Hi! My name is Rhiannon and I am a graduate in Geography Student at Mansfield College, University of Oxford.

I wanted to be on the trust as the GEI follows my core values as an individual especially in relation to Climate Justice. I also wanted to be on the trust to ensure greater representation for different voices and backgrounds within climate advocacy, especially as I am a disabled young person and within this area not many disabled or young people get the opportunity to shape an organisation and attend global scaled events. Therefore, I see it as integral for all views and values to be involved within both the GEI and the climate justice movement as a whole.

Furthermore, Miriam also gave me the opportunity to be a part of the trust as she saw I had potential, so I am honoured to be part of such a great organisation. I bring many key skills to the GEI’s trust including experience in working within climate change and youth mental health as a youth advocate in the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych); I have excellent interpersonal skills; I am also highly organised and extremely motivated individual especially by fighting for climate justice and youth/disability empowerment. I would like to achieve greater recognition of disabled people in the fight for climate justice, especially as I often find the disabled community is excluded from climate mitigation strategy and international climate change negotiations.

As an organisation the GEI is amazing and to expand I believe the greatest opportunity would be is to include a greater number of young people. This is not only to allow the attendance of youth to international climate conferences, allowing their voices to be heard but also to allow young people to be involved in producing academic knowledge, such as publishing youth opinions in academic journals through opinion sections, enabling all perspectives of climate change to be heard within the academic community and not just via the perspectives of researchers. The GEI is a fantastic organisation and I look forward to working as a trustee!

There is now quite a queue to be on the trust and our Trustees are re elected each year.  Several people are waiting in the queue.  We revise the trustee group each year for the maximum benefit of our work and for diversity of skills and geographical spread and expertise relevant to each years planned activities, which is the same process  as we do for our academic journal and it is not unusual to stand down for a year if its very full and then to come back on.

If you would like to apply -we take strictly those applicants who can fill gaps  any current gaps in our work – which is Education for social and environmental and economics justice perspectives, stopping biodiversity loss and mass extinctions, preventing runnaway climate change and preventing poverty as well as working for economics reform and the implementation of a green economy.  The trustees choose who to take first in the best interests of the Charity.  

We do this by providing events, conferences, workshops, training courses, student education, work experience, speeches, experts, carrying out research, education courses, publications, exhibition stands and much more.

Prof Maria Alejandra Madi, Trustee-(Brazil and Portugal)

Maria Alejandra Madi holds an MA in Philosophy and a PhD in Economics . Her academic career includes a long-term professorship at UNICAMP (1983-2012) and visiting professorships at the University of Manitoba in (Canada) and at the University of Kassel (Germany), in addition to a position as Avocational Lecturer at Steinbes University Berlin. She is also researcher at the Center for Pragmatism Studies (PUC-SP, ). In addition to her overall research interest that lies in the financial and social challenges of globalization, her current line of investigation includes a philosophical discussion both of realism in economics and in the methodology of economics within the wider context of the philosophy of science.

She has been Chair of the World Economics Association(WEA) Online Conferences Programme since 2014, Editor of the WEA Books Conference Series and founding editor of the WEA Pedagogy Blog (weapedagogy.wordpress.com/). On behalf of her interest in a pluralist Economics Education , she is also Assistant Editor of the International Journal of Pluralism and Economics Education.

Besides having published research papers and book reviews in international journals, she co-edited  of The Green Economics Institute (UK) books, including The Greening of Global Finance, The Greening of Latin America and Values, Valuation and Valuing. She also co-edited some of the World Economics Association (UK) books: The Economics Curriculum: towards a radical reformulation, Ideas towards a new international financial architecture? and Capital and Justice.

Her latest books include Global Finance and Development (Sanbun, India), Small Business in Brazil: competitive global challenges (Nova Publishers, U.S.) and Pluralist Readings in Economics: key-concepts and policy-tools for the 21^st century (Bentham Science). Among other activities in professional and academic organizations, she is Vice-President of the Ordem dos Economistas do Brasil, Counselor of the Conselho Regional de Economia-SP and member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Green Economics and the Journal of Reviews on Global Economics.

Michelle S Gale, Director of the Green Economics Institute

Michelle S. Gale has been a leader of the  Green Economics Institute, UK. She is a member of the Law School of the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), holding an MA in Human Rights Law with a focus on Islamic Law, Peace-Building, and Developing Countries, specifically South Sudan. Founder of the Gender Progress Consortium, she holds degrees in Political Science and International Relations from Richmond, the American International University in London (RAIUL).

She is a deputy editor of the International Journal of Green Economics and our lead diplomat at our COP Climate Conferences.She was instrumental in getting the Paris COP21 accord to be a tough as possible and also has represented us at COP15 in Denmark, COp21 in Paris and COP23 in Bonn as well as running some of the most popular side events for the United Nations at RIO +20 sustainability conference.

She has lived for many years in Brazil and is now in the USA Directing a Charity in Chicago which specialises in social justice and practical help for members of the community less able to fend for themselves.

Professor Peter Yang (USA and China)

Peter Yang possess two doctorates, Ph.D. in German from University Utah, and Dr phil. (dissertation on the impact of Germany’s green economic policies on the USA and China) from Ruhr University Bochum. These formal trainings allowed him to be involved in a wide range of research and teaching, and to become author and co-author of ten books and around 100 journal articles, book chapters, book and film reviews, and translations.

Before he came to the USA, he was a researcher specializing in international economics in China. In that capacity, he published a co-authored book and several journal articles and book chapters on the country’s early economic reform policies and strategies in the 1980’s. One of these publications was “The Rapid Expansion of Economic Information in the 1990s and the Challenge to China’s Economic Reform” in the book From Technology Transfer to Technology Management in China (Springer, 1990). He proposed, among other reform policies, the reform of its value added tax (VAT) as a major transformative policy tool toward a market-oriented economic system.
Currently he teaches and researches as an associate professor at the Case Western Reserve University, USA, in German and Chinese Studies. As an expert on Germany and China, he aims his research at investigating the roots of environmental, social, economic challenges of both developing and developed countries, such as environment pollution, climate change, ecological degradation, income disparity, as well as the challenges and solutions in renewable energy, smart energy storage and transmission technologies. In addition, he makes great efforts to examine the existing environmental, climate, socioeconomic policies, legislations and regulations to promote the global, national, and local transformation to ecologically and socioeconomically sustainable and decarbonized future through renewable energy and energy efficiency.

His most recent books, refereed  journal articles, book chapters and book reviews are results of these research and scholarly activities. His Rolling Back the Tide of Climate Change (The Green Economics Institute, 2014) examined the Germany’s proactive ecological and renewable energy promotion policies and laws in comparison of those in the United States and China, and appealed the latter to learn from Germany’s policies as their role model. Renewables are Getting Cheaper  (The Green Economics Institute, 2015) explored the deployment and penetration of renewable energy technologies in the world and in the major economies, and examined the challenges and solutions of renewable energy markets. His Cases on Green Energy and Sustainable Development (Engineering Science Reference, 2019, 583pp)–a voluminous critical edition of fully refereed research articles by 35 scientific, technological and social experts–deals with technological, economic and social aspects of renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable development issues.

His recent refereed journal papers, such as “Public finance and environment: correlations of selected taxes with pollution and CO 2 emissions in China between 1999 and 2006” (International Journal of Green Economics, 2009); “Accelerating the green transformation in the USA: new deal for the economic crisis” (International Journal of Green Economics, 2011); “Black energy intensity versus green energy intensity: implications for sustainable development” (International Journal of Green Economics, 2014) and book review of Environmental Policy Convergence in Europe? The Impact of International Institutions and Trade (International Journal of Green Economics, 2009) exemplify Professor Yang’s expertise on government policies on energy transformation, environmental and climate protection in Germany, China, the United States and the EU.

 Professor Doaa Salmon (Egypt)

Dr Doaa has been working on the charities education in economics since the beginning and led a large party on our British Council 5 nation educational course and field trip many years ago with us which was incredibly exciting where we pioneered green jobs and green careers as a training course in the world.

Dr. Doaa is a highly accomplished economist and professor at the Faculty of Management Sciences at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts. She has a Ph.D. in Economics from Ain Shams University, Egypt, and a master’s degree in the same field, establishing her as a respected authority in academia. As an approved consultant and trainer for esteemed educational institutions and universities, Dr. Doaa provides valuable consultations and training to multinational private and governmental organizations across diverse domains. Her profound understanding of conducting Feasibility Studies in Egypt has proven instrumental in identifying common risk areas, reducing costs, and increasing revenue throughout the project lifecycle.

 In addition to her academic role, Dr. Doaa holds the position of Vice Dean for postgraduate studies. Her extensive knowledge and experience in the field of economics make her a valuable asset to the academic community and a trusted advisor for organizations seeking to enhance their economic performance

Anna Diaz Vidal

I graduated with a first class Honours degree in Sustainable Development (Politics and International Relations) from the University of Edinburgh and I am currently pursuing a masters in Environmental Policy (Methods and Global Economy) at Sciences Po Paris.

Since the start of my undergraduate degree, I have been learning across disciplines, always with sustainability at the core of all my actions: I am the most comfortable in the context of systems thinking. Thematically, I have an interest in political economy, monetary policy and the interactions between science and policy, always with an ecological focus.

I am experienced in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, visualization, and in conveying complex datasets in an accessible manner.

In the new project “Grassroots Hutting”, we aim to train volunteers in traditional building while at the same time researching the carbon and biodiversity impact of the hut construction. We will assess the gains and losses created by such a traditional construction using local, natural materials, in practices modelled on archaeological evidence. Our assessment concerns the directly accountable losses from cutting turf and trees, and the gains from reseeding, regrowing, and replanting to increase carbon sequestration and biodiversity. We then also consider the gains from
more intangible values that can expand the project’s social and cultural capital.

With our  partner project Ana engaged in training sessions by international experts and political leaders and developing my advocacy projects in cooperation with fellow ambassadors.
Deconstructing pre-existing biases and developing new approaches to gender and climate issues.
Twenty ambassadors from across the globe participated in a six-month training program promoting the growth of the green feminist movement across Europe.

Tasneem Sabry (UK and Egypt)

Trustee,  Global Diplomacy Coordinator for The Green Economics Institute Trust 

I have been elected as a trustee for the institute  with the purpose of expanding the diplomacy of the trust. As the institute’s global diplomacy coordinator, I am responsible for the expansion of the institute’s diplomatic mission and international presence. In my role, I hope to establish a global green diplomacy network that provides a platform and networking opportunity for green economy advocates from around the world and across ministries to cooperate on key areas to invigorate the push for incorporating green economic principles into government-decision making before it’s too late. I believe that the institute’s work is of huge importance to the preservation of our existence and that its contributions are particularly significant in the world’s current state due to the calamitous socio-economic and environmental consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic that have been universally felt.

 I completed my undergraduate degree in International Studies at the American University of Sharjah and obtained a master’s degree in Diplomacy from the University of Reading. During my studies, I produced an undergraduate senior thesis on feminist movements in the Muslim world and wrote a dissertation for my master’s degree on the history of the political system in Sudan. Conducting research on such topics has increased my passion for social justice, fixing broken systems and improving the quality of life for all. Having personally witnessed the underdevelopment and poor access to information in Africa and the Middle East, I have a passion for strengthening community knowledge by expanding the access and quality of information and improving economic, health and environmental reporting in order to supply vulnerable communities with the tools and material necessary to succeed.
